MotoGP über-rider Valentino Rossi smashed the lap record in testing at Jerez yesterday and won a brand new BMW Z4 M Coupe for his troubles.

To celebrate, Rossi jumped on the roof of his shiny new M car, creating what looked like a pair of Dainese race-boot-sized dinks in the bodywork.

Good lad. It's that kind of exuberance that makes Rossi impossible to dislike.

Rossi's lap of 1 minute 38.394 seconds was almost seven tenths quicker than the previous best lap, set by Loris Capirossi on the 990cc Ducati in 2006.

So much for the new rules introduced to slow MotoGP bikes...
