After a little more than three years of reconstruction and restoration, the Rough Diamond competition altered is once again ready to hit the track!
First built and campaigned by Dave Gibbons in 1981, the neglected race car was discovered in Austria, and Dave set out on a mission to restore it to its former glory. With a new frame the car is now tagged to run six seconds and sports a 468 c.i. big block Chevrolet engine (on loan from Paul Marston Racing). ‘It’s been a lot more work than I had anticipated, but I’ve enjoyed the process and look forward more to enjoying the ride!’ said Dave.
The new motor fired at the first hit of the button. ‘I can’t say enough good things about the BLP Racing Products carb built by Tony Morris’ said Dave, ‘with no more than half a turn of the idle screw the car ran perfectly’.

After that it’ll be attending the long awaited Dragstalgia event in July. ‘I’m really looking forward to that one’ said Dave, ‘it promises to be a great event, and Santa Pod should be congratulated for implementing it. I’m particularly looking forward to the possibility of turning the clock back nearly 30 years with a match race with Alan Loten in Paranoia’.
Dave will primarily campaign the altered in Super Pro trim and may well dabble with Super Comp. ‘Apart from a drive of The Alien 7 years ago I’ve been a long time out of the saddle so it’ll be tough not to be first round fodder’. Rough Diamond will usually appear alongside the Paul Marston Racing operation, their wealth of experience will be a great benefit, and Dave is greatly indebted to Paul for his help.
All work on the car has been completed by Dave Gibbons who is now in a position to consider carrying out race car work for others. While not able to offer facilities for complete cars, work on engines, transmissions, axles and small fabrications or repairs is offered. Contact
